Friday, February 27, 2004: DISNEYLAND

Drove to Los Angeles and Anaheim. Started at 3pm. Got in at 9:30pm at the Ramada in Anaheim directly across from the Disneyland entrance after a quick dinner stop.

DISNEYLAND! Got our tix at the hotel and got there when the gates opened at 9am. Here, Arthur sits on a park bench on Main Street and decides where to go first.

On Main Street we saw the Walt Disney Story featuring “Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln”. The first part of this you sat in a theater wearing headphones and you feel like you are a soldier having his picture taken in the studio of a famous photographer. His assistant snips your hair, and you feel your hair being cut. A fly buzzes around you and you want to swat it. The assistant whispers in your ear and you feel his breath. He blows hair clippings off your ear and you feel the wind. It was SUPER! They also had an animatronic Lincoln giving some of the Gettysburg Address, but I’m not big on animatronics.

Rode the Disneyland train all around the park to get an overall feel for the place.

Next was Star Tours in Tomorrowland — a virtual ride through stars and asteroids and a galactic battle. Neat, but I wish we did more riding through black holes and galaxies and interstellar dust and Saturn rings and all. That would be really fun and instructive too. Then Honey, I Shrunk The Audience, also in Tomorrowland. We wore 3-D glasses and were in specially equipped chairs that could move. The 3-D effects were very good and when (virtual) mice got out in the audience, a puff of air from under the chair made you convinced that one of the mice was climbing up your leg!

In Fantasyland, Martha rode the Matterhorn Bobsleds (Arthur begged off), but both rode Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, Peter Pan’s Flight, Pinocchio’s Daring Journey, and Snow White’s Scary Adventures.

In Critter Country we rode down Splash Mountain and got our picture taken -- and we got wet, too! We also went on the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh — a fun ride.

New Orleans Square had two of our favorite rides: The Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, but both were too dark for any good pictures to come out. I didn’t even try for the Haunted Mansion.

Very tired, we left the park around 6:30pm and had dinner at a place called Mom’s! We could have gone back for the evening parade on Main Street at 8pm, but we were too tired and just went back to the motel to sleep.
