The end of our trip - and a big long ride from Eugene, Oregon, to the Bay Area - an eight hour drive not counting stops for food, gas, and potty breaks.
Stopped for our picnic lunch at Weed, California, near Mt. Shasta. Mt. Shasta was beautiful. The area also has hundreds of round mounds ringed with rocks. The mounds are about 30-40 feet in diameter. No one knows where they came from; there are no local Indian tales that would explain them, and the Indians say just that they've always been there. One theory is that they are frost heaves, but their symmetry and evenness means that's not the explanation. Another theory is that the mounds and rock rings come from gopher action, but that also seems ridiculous to me. The placards in Weed say it all remains a mystery.

Dear Journal,
Today we woke up, had breakfast, and drove for a boring 10 hour drive to Oakland, where we said hi + bye to M.P.W. and went to sleep in Gran's house.

Thursday, September 2nd, 2004 Day 32
Dear Journal,
Today we went to paula + William's and played with them the whole day, from building K'nex rackets to reading. After that, we had dinner, packed, and went to sleep.

Friday, September 3rd, 2004 Day 33
Dear Journal,
Today I packed up and Gran brought me to the airport, where I got on the plane, went into the cockpit, and we took off. When I got to Philadelphia, everyone was waiting, and Natan had a balloon. And when we got home, the instant that I hit the bed, I was asleep.
