Had some yummy home-made sweet rolls for breakfast. Then we went for a hike on the grounds of the B&B. We took the bluff walk, which went through some mini bad-lands, had some gorgeous vies, and passed some of the B&B's Angus cattle.

Saturday, August 14th, 2004 Day 13
Dear Journal,
Today we woke up, had breakfast, and went for a hike through the Badlands. On the way back, Bop and I took a different trail, and at the end, it was an at least 30°! Then we went to a fish hatchery and learned about the whole process of getting eggs, hatching them, raising them, and releasing the, We also tried to go to the power station, but it was closed. After that, we went to another Interpretive Center, the Knife River Interpretive Center, and I became a Junior Ranger. After that, we had dinner, and went to sleep.

Drove to the Garrison Dam's fish hatchery and learned how they manage to harvest the eggs and milt, mix them to fertilize the eggs, incubate them, and raise the fry to fingerling and then to release size. It seems very difficult, complicated, and expensive for restocking fish for a few fishermen! But they were also raising pallid sturgeons, which are an endangered species, so I suppose that's a good thing to do.

We drove to Knife River, another interpretive center, which had earth lodges reconstructed and where Aron got another Junior Ranger badge, completely impressing the Ranger both with his answers and his attitude. (This is not new. At a previous interpretive center the guide said she'd love to be Aron's teacher.) Had dinner at Daisy Duke's in Pick, North Dakota, and went to bed.
